  • No Food Recall at The Dog Club

The Dog Club of West Linn was not affected by the nationwide recall of pet foods. Our premium dog and cat foods are made with human grade ingredients free of wheat gluten, meat and meal by-products and artificial colors or flavoring.

Canidae, Innova, Wellness, Merrick and Natural Balance foods are wholesome foods fit for your pet! Frozen foods, Rock Island Raw and Nature's Variety, are another wholesome alternative found in our frozen section.

    Update Emergency Contact Numbers

What if your dog was playing at day care and for some reason or other had a seizure or needed other medical attention? Without a current contact number, medical attention could be delayed. It is important to update your emergency contact numbers--home, office, and cell numbers of you and your spouse or significant other.

Last week, one of our day care dogs came in and played or a brief time and then laid down. Day care attendant, Arat, noticed that the dog was quivering. Jamie, day care lead, checked her and noticed that she was feverish, very anxious and trembling. We thought she may be having a seizure. Jamie applied first aid (i.e. Karo syrup in case it was a diabetic seizure) It did not help. We wrapped her in a thermal blanket and took her to the vet.

At the vet, it was determined that her temperature was 103 degrees. Throughout this situation, we were trying to locate the parents and got voicemail. One of the numbers was no longer valid. The vet wanted to do blood work, but I could not give the OK without the parents approval. It was determined that they would give her something to calm her down and give her fluids intravenously to cool her down.

Fortunately we were able to get ahold of the mom and we had a happy ending, but it made us realize that we need to constantly update our records.

If you have moved, changed jobs, or phone numbers, please call us at 503-635-3523 or email ccox@dogclub4u.com and we will update your file. Thank you!

P.S. As an aside--We are very proud of how our day care attendants handled the situation. The first aid class has been very valuable. We will be scheduling another class once the remodel is complete. We will let you know just as soon as we have a date.

    Slug & Snail Bait Warning

Spring is in the air and many of us are anxious to get our hands in the dirt and plant flowers and gardens. Living in the Oregon, we are all too familiar with the presence of slugs and snails eating away at the fruits (vegetables and flowers) of our labor!! You may be tempted to use a slug & snail bait to get rid of the little pests, but Pet Owners BEWARE!

Slug & Snail Bait is very dangerous for our four-legged friends.

According to Dr. Erbach of VCA West Linn Animal Hospital, Slug and Snail Bait is highly toxic to pets. It has a flavoring that dogs are attracted to. If you suspect that your dog or cat has ingested this toxin, take your pet to the vet ASAP.

Symptoms include tremors, high temperature and seizures. Delay in treatment can lead to liver complications. If not treated, it can be fatal.

Dr. Erbach also warned pet owners of "Cocoa Mulch" and compost piles. Cocoa Mulch is a new mulch that is made from husks of cocoa beans and as you know, chocolate is poisonous to dogs. Evidently compost piles (leaves, grasses, etc.) can also be harmful to our pets, so it is best to keep them covered and out of reach of curious dogs.

Again, if you suspect your dog has gotten into any of the above mentioned toxins, please take your pet to the vet as soon as possible. Have a safe and healthy summer!

    Remodel Update

The remodel is almost complete!!! First of all, we would like to apologize for not letting you know that the web cam has been down due to the remodel. We should have it up and running next week.

Things are looking pretty spiffy at The Dog Club! The roll up doors are gone and we look like a real live building instead of a garage! The temporary wall in day care has been removed and customers can now see their dogs at play. Painting should be completed this weekend. Landscaping will be done the week of the 16th.

The new section upstairs is undergoing it's final touchups--installing wash tub and sink for the groomers, finishing electrical switches and plugs, sealing the floor and cleaning. We expect to move to the new section on Friday the 13th (It WILL be a good thing!!!)

The week of the 16th will wrap up the remodel and hopefully get us back to normal. (I forgot what normal is like!!) We would like to thank all our customers for putting up with the remodel and bearing with the mess! Thank you! A Grand Re-Opening is in the works!! We will let you know. . .

    Newspaper Ad

This has to be one of the best singles ads ever printed. It is reported to have been listed in the Atlanta Journal.

SINGLE BLACK FEMALE seeks male companionship, ethnicity unimportant. I'm a very good girl who LOVES to play. I love long walks in the woods, riding in your pickup truck, hunting, camping and fishing trips, cozy winter nights lying by the fire. Candlelight dinners will have me eating out of your hand. I'll be at the front door when you get home from work, wearing only what nature gave me. Call (404) 875-6420 and ask for Daisy, I'll be waiting ....

Over 15,000 men found themselves talking to the Atlanta Humane Society! The email contained a picture of a beautiful black lab pup! Who wouldn't want the unconditional love of a "Daisy"?

This was an email sent to The Dog Club from our friend, Richard Shebitz of Oregon City.
